Frequently asked questions
Should I start at 0 or 1?
Both work. At 0 the value counts finished rows; at 1 it is the row you’re working on. The repeat display is correct either way.
How do repeats work?
Enter a repeat length in the counter, for example 8. Rowbook then shows which repeat and which row you’re on, such as “Repeat 6, row 2 of 8”.
What does “Follows counter” mean?
A counter can follow another one. When the row counts plus one, the linked counter does too, and the same for minus. Undo takes both back together.
How do I count on the lock screen?
Open a project, tap the menu at the top and choose “Count on the lock screen”. On iPhone a Live Activity appears, on Android a notification with plus and minus.
Can I count with a foot pedal?
Yes. Space, Enter, Arrow Down and Page Down count plus one; Backspace, Arrow Up and Page Up count minus one. This works with Bluetooth foot pedals, ring clickers and keyboards. Camera remote shutters usually send “volume up” and therefore don’t work.
How do I move my projects to a new device?
In Settings under Data, choose “Create backup” and transfer the file, for example via AirDrop, Quick Share or email. Install Rowbook on the new device and choose “Import backup”. This also works between iPhone and Android; you need to buy the app once per store.
Limits of this version
- Reminders appear in the app as soon as the counter reaches the value, not as notifications and not on the lock screen. If you count there, you’ll see them the next time you open the app.
- The screen only stays on if you turn that on in the settings under “Counting”.
- iOS ends a Live Activity after eight hours at most. You can then turn it on again from the menu in the project.
- Undo covers the last 20 counting steps per project, not details, notes or settings.
- No PDF patterns, no pattern library, no Ravelry connection, no voice control via the microphone and no watch app.
